Recomendaciones generales:

• Inicia el proceso de admisión a un posgrado en el extranjero por lo menos con un año y medio o más de anticipación.

• Identifica varias opciones de universidades que cuenten con el programa de posgrado que te interesa cursar.

• Elige los países en donde te interesaría cursar el programa de posgrado y donde te pueden otorgar la beca.

• Consulta con expertos o egresados que hayan cursado estudios de posgrado en el extranjero y pregúntale sobre tus dudas al respecto.

• Analiza y compara las ventajas y desventajas que te ofrece cada uno, y cuál satisface más tus necesidades de desarrollo profesional y personal.

• Verifica si cumples con los requisitos de ingreso a la universidad que deseas ingresar.

• Reunir toda la documentación requiere tiempo, esfuerzo y dedicación. Algunos documentos tendrán que ser en el idioma del país al que solicitas y/o apostillados. Infórmate bien de éstos requerimientos.

• Es conveniente que envíes tu solicitud de admisión a varias universidades.

• Recaba toda la información sobre becas, para determinar cuál es la que aplica para tu posgrado y te conviene más. Al igual que en el caso de las universidades, es conveniente que apliques a varios organismos que otorguen beca.

• Otro aspecto a considerar, es que comúnmente, los procesos de asignación de becas se llevan a cabo únicamente durante fechas determinadas, por lo que es importante estar al pendiente de la emisión de las convocatorias de cada programa y presentar la solicitud y documentación antes de que cierre la convocatoria.

TOEFL Practice Websites

1.         This website has some information about the test, preparing for the test and some practice tests, mostly focused on the structure section.  Keep track of what you have trouble with and then do internet searches for information that helps you know what was incorrect.  You can also check on the Frequently Asked Questions – Grammar Section for links to explanations.

7.         Randall´s ESL Lab is a great website with a lot of listening practice of different levels.  The advanced level conversations are good practice for TOEFL Listening Part B and the Listening Quizzes for Academic Purposes are good for Parts B and C.  Do all the activities connected with each listening text.  Sometimes the questions are really easy but the other ativities are more challenging.

9.         TOEFL Reading practice test.  This is a great practice BUT it´s the computer based test format so some of the question types are not found on the paper test.

10.   Vocabualry, vocabulary and more vocabulary.  This site has a lot of vocabulary quizzes arranged by part of speech (nouns, adjectives, etc.)  It´s really difficult, but good to work through some of them.  Use your Spanish to sort out the latin rooted words.  Good luck!

Recommended websites for grammar practice

1. This website has a wide range of materials for practice but the focus is on grammar.  Some of the grammar activities are kind of boring and repetitive, but the explanations are very clear.  Use them for your own practice or to take into the classes you´re teaching.

2.  This website has a bit of everything and lots, and lots and lots of grammar exercises.  Also look at the exercises for the other skills.  There´s lots and the tests will help you know if you´re ready for your class test!

3.  This is another learn English online site that has a huge selection of

explanations and exercises.  The explanations are pretty clear, but many of the exercises are kind of the same.  There´s a good theme based vocabulary section that can help expand your functional vocabulary or to prepare classes.

4.  This website also has lots of exercises for all levels, but be careful if you´re thinking of taking the explanations into your classes.  The explanations for the lower levels are a bit too complex and may contain too much information for low level students.  Look at it carefully before you use it in a class.  Good

practice activities for self-study!  Check the listening and vocabulary sections.
